Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, March 12, 2003
1:30 p.m.
Governor's Residence, Lower Level

  1. Adoption of Mission Statement.

Those present were given two options to choose from — the original statement presented to the group in January and a revised statement. In addition, it was determined that those present during the past three meetings, but not present at this meeting would be given the opportunity to vote via email. The approved mission statement is posted on the website. A separate subcommittee will be developed to address the goals and objectives of the group.

  2. Review Website Standards.

A document with requirements and suggestions was handed out to the group. The guidelines are posted on the webmaster web site. It was suggested that the group also look at readability issues when writing web pages. Section 508 disability was also discussed in relation to video and audio clips. Either transcripts or close-captioning should be available on such clips if possible. All images should have an alt tag or d tag for those visually impaired. Questions were also raised about the incorrect state seal on agency websites. The State Seal of Nebraska has been revised. The new version is available on the webmaster web site. This will be a standing committee to address new issues as they arise.

  3. Review Archiving Standards.

A document with archiving suggestions and practices was handed out. The guidelines remain very general because many decisions will depend on the agency size, staff and technology. If an agency is hosting its own web site, it was highly suggested that the archiving be conducted in accordance with the agency's disaster policy. The recommendations are posted on the webmaster web site. More archiving options are being explored and may be disclosed at a later time. This will be a standing committee to address new issues as they arise.

  4. Miscellaneous.

Membership and voting guidelines. Discussion centered on voting privileges. It was felt by those present that voting privileges should be extended to those who are active in the group and attend meetings regularly. Guest membership will also be extended to those unable to attend but wishing to have a voice in the organization, but they will be unable to vote. Sign-in sheets are available at meetings for those who attend.

Webmaster website. The web site is still a work in progress. Anyone who has suggestions or who is interested in helping can contact Laura.

  5. Adjourn.
