Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, February 6, 2008
1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
Nebraska Library Commission, Crane Room

  1. MIR3: Web-Based Notification System.

Steve Hartman, Security Officer with the Office of the Chief Information Officer, demonstrated a new web-based mass notification system acquired by the OCIO in August 2007. As a series of pilot projects, the OCIO is customizing this product, MIR3: Enterprise, for use by a handful of state/county agencies and state colleges.

This product features the ability to "broadcast" notifications (enterprise-wide) for general announcements, scheduled downtime, emergency notifications, etc.

It also has "call-out" capabilities, for requests for respondents. An example of a call-out for respondents would be Department of Roads, in response to a major snow storm, sending a call out to potential snowplow operators. If 50 operators are needed, a call out would be sent to the pool of available staff to confirm who is available to assist. When 50 respondents are confirmed, the call out automatically ends.

The notification system can be configured and customized to contact staff by email, work phone, home phone, cell phone, VOIP, etc. Set up is enterprise-wide with limited staff self service (updating phone numbers, emails addresses, etc.) available if the agency prefers.

For more information about obtaining this product for your agency, contact the OCIO.

  2. Nomination and Vote for Chair-Elect.

    Postponed until the April meeting.

  3. Miscellaneous.

Potential future meeting topics were discussed.

Chair will follow up on the status of an upcoming Webmasters' Group marketing piece for the State House Observer.

Steve Hartmann noted that PCI compliance for state agencies using web-based credit card purchasing/application firewalls will be required at an earlier date than last year.

  4. Adjourn.
